The Parabolic SAR is a trend-following technical indicator that was originally a trading system called Parabolic Time/Price System developed by J. Welles Wilder, Jr. who introduced it along with other systems and indicators in 1978 in his book, "New Concepts in Technical Trading Systems". The Parabolic SAR has been around for decades but is still being used in conjunction with other indicators as part of trading systems, primarily to identify the direction of a security's momentum and serve as a trailing stop.
